Our Team

 

The Centre for Natural Medicine is a professional naturopathic medical Clinic. There are 7 board certified and licensed naturopathic doctors that share the same training and philosophy in treating a wide range of conditions. Combined, they draw on over 50 years of clinical experience. A referral is not required, however many patients are often referred to the Centre for Natural Medicine by other healthcare providers. The doctors and dedicated support staff at the clinic strive to provide the highest standard of clinical care. We are currently accepting new patients.

Our naturopathic doctors are active members of the Manitoba Naturopathic Association and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors.

Dr. Gordon Sims, ND, Lac

Dr. Sims graduated from a four year Doctoral program at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland Oregon. In addition to the Naturopathic program, Dr. Sims obtained a Masters in Oriental Medicine (board certified acupuncturist and herbalist NCCAOM).

Dr.Sims has enjoyed participating each year as a guest lecturer for the faculty of medicine at the University of Manitoba and is an advocate for exploring creative integrated strategies in patient care. The goal in treatment always remains addressing the underlying root cause of the condition.

Prior to his medical training, Dr. Sims obtained his B.Sc. from the faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba (1989, Distinction). Dr. Sims worked in the field of biomedical engineering obtaining a patent for an artificial knee prosthesis.

Dr. Sims has a general naturopathic family practice, helping patients to address a wide range of conditions. Dr. Sims has worked extensively in fertility, digestive issues, pain management, and IV Therapy. As a member of the Institute of Functional Medicine, Dr. Sims attends the yearly conferences of the IFM to help give Manitobans access to the most current research and treatment strategies.

Camping, coaching, sports and travel are Dr. Sims' interests outside of practice.

Dr. Dean Schrader, ND

Dr. Dean Schrader received his Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Biology from the University of Winnipeg. He obtained his Doctorate with Academic Honors from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Schrader has a general naturopathic family practice and treats all ages. He treats a wide variety of conditions including (but not limited to) adrenal fatigue, thyroid conditions, digestive issues, allergies, pain management, lyme disease and cancer. Dr. Schrader is also trained in Bowen therapy and IV therapy.

Dr. Schrader is a past board member of the Manitoba Naturopathic Association (MNA) and currently serves on two committees with the MNA. He lectures to various groups in the Winnipeg area.

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Dean Schrader enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and is an avid runner and cyclist. He has run several half and full marathons, with the most memorable being the Boston marathon.  He is looking forward to participating in Habitat for Humanity "Cycle of Hope" (July 2016), cycling from Kansis City to Winnipeg.   He utilizes his passion exercise to motivate and empower his patients to lead an active healthy lifestyle. He has a keen interest in keeping up to date on the latest research and scientific literature in natural medicine.

Dr. Suzanne Danner, ND

Dr. Danner holds a doctoral degree of Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from the four-year program, Dr. Danner completed a one-year residency. Prior to her medical training, Dr. Danner obtained a bachelor degree in Foods and Nutrition from the Faculty of Human Ecology at the University of Manitoba (1990).

Dr. Danner is a co-founder of the Centre for Natural Medicine, Inc., established in 1998. Dr. Danner practices with a strong belief in prevention and follows the naturopathic principles as teacher.She is a frequent lecturer in the community and has regularly guest lectured at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba.

"I believe health care requires a team approach between doctor and patient. Patients aren't just looking for relief of symptoms, but for a partner to educate and assist them in achieving optimal health. I also believe it is vital to the healing process to understand the relationship between one's symptoms and the underlying cause. In addition to traditional considerations such as infectious disease and metabolic disorders, I also look into the role of nutritional deficiencies, food allergies/sensitivities, and stress imbalance."

Dr. Danner strikes a healthy balance between professional and personal life. She shares her life and her general naturopathic family practice with her husband, Dr. Gordon Sims and their two very fun and active daughters. When not in the office she enjoys spending time outside close to nature and participating in outdoor activities. She especially loves working in one of her many gardens. Dr. Danner volunteers her time and energy to the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors, where she actively serves as a provincial board member.

Sr Sara Korsunsky, NDDr. Sara Korsunsky, ND

Dr. Sara Korsunsky ND is University of Winnipeg graduate, and studied at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Korsunsky accepts all patients, and is passionate about helping those with auto-immune conditions (ie arthritis, diabetes, MS), skin health (skin conditions and anti-aging), pediatric health, and mental and hormonal health for both men and women (mood disorders, hormonal balance, fertility, adrenal and thyroid health).  She also treats patients with cancer, naturally or in conjunction with chemotherapy or radiation.  She herself uses naturopathic medicine to live healthily with Lupus and a young family. Her unique position as both patient and doctor with a chronic illness enable her to share her wisdom and perspective with others who feel challenged by managing their health.

She empowers patients to make sustainable changes to improve their health and prevent disease.  She speaks both English and French.  She is a former competitive gymnast and for fun practices yoga and dance. 

Treatments employed by Dr. Korsunsky include:  functional medicine, lab testing (food intolerances, digestion, hormones, adrenal and thyroid, etc.), acupuncture, intravenous (IV therapy) (vitamins, minerals glutathione, antioxidants) therapies, weight management programs (for healthy body composition), homeopathy and Biotherapeutic Drainage, herbal medicine, Gemmotherapy and Organotherapy, Dr. Korsunsky ND is trained in Cosmetic Acupuncture (also known as non-surgical face lifting) for anti-aging and all skin conditions.

Dr. Amy Kroeker, ND - Our Team - The Centre - Centre for Natural Medicine - Naturopathic Doctors - Winnipeg, Manitoba

Dr. Amy Kroeker, ND

Dr. Amy Kroeker, ND graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutritional Sciences from the University of Manitoba and went on to complete her degree as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. During her clinical training, Dr. Kroeker was one of twelve students chosen to start the Brampton Civic Naturopathic Clinic within the Brampton Civic Hospital in Ontario. This clinic began as a pilot project designed to provide integrative healthcare within a hospital and is the first clinic of its kind in Canada.

In her naturopathic practice, Dr. Kroeker seeks to identify the root of the problem and group individual symptoms into a comprehensive picture. Nutrition, lifestyle change, and Traditional Chinese Medicine are all core therapies on which Dr. Kroeker commonly bases her prescriptions due to their ability to address the 'big picture'.  Dr. Kroeker is a regular guest lecturer for the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba.

Aside from clinical naturopathic practice, Dr. Kroeker is an active individual who is always on the search for new things to learn. Her curiosity has led her to try many activities and sports such as performing in musical productions and cycling across Canada. "I don't have just ONE sole passion in life. Instead, I choose to take my passion FOR life into everything I do."

Dr. Lauren Cottom, ND

Dr. Cottom received her doctoral degree from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona, graduating with honours. Prior to this, Dr. Cottom obtained her Bachelor of Sciences in Biology from Jamestown College (now University of Jamestown) in Jamestown, North Dakota, where she was also a 4-year member of their women’s soccer program.

Dr. Cottom has a general family practice, seeing patients of all ages and genders with both chronic and acute concerns. She treats a variety of health concerns including, but not limited to: digestive disorders, skin concerns, thyroid and other hormone disorders, mental health, and women’s health concerns such as menstrual cycle irregularities/PMS, PCOS, vaginal health, preconception/prenatal/postpartum care, and menopause. Dr. Cottom works with her patients to understand the underlying cause of their symptoms and disease. She uses a variety of naturopathic therapies to create individualized treatment plans for each of her patients, helping them reach their optimal health. She also uses cosmetic applications of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for facial rejuvenation and the treatment of various skin conditions and concerns such as acne, scarring, rosacea, eczema, and psoriasis. Dr. Cottom has extra training in IV therapy, Mayan uterine massage, and biotherapeutic drainage.

Dr. Cottom also has a passion for global and community medicine, spending time volunteering at medical clinics in Mexico and Haiti. Outside of the clinic she keeps busy by spending time outdoors, playing soccer, skiing, practicing yoga, relaxing at the lake, and traveling.

Dr. Leanne Florence, NDDr. Leanne Florence, ND

Dr. Leanne Florence graduated from a four year Doctoral program at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. Prior to her medical training, Dr. Florence obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Film and Theatre from the University of Winnipeg and went on to obtain her Bachelor of Sciences in Microbiology from the University of Manitoba.

Dr. Florence has a passion for pain management, rheumatology and sports medicine. She treats a variety of conditions including migraines, TMJ disorder, low back pain, sciatica, rotator cuff injury, labral tears, tennis elbow, knee pain, achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis and other rheumatic diseases. She is passionate about nutrition and exercise and is an avid proponent of holistic treatment. This includes implementing attainable lifestyle changes to reduce pain. Her practice focuses on Musculoskeletal Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections and Prolotherapy also known as Regenerative Injection Therapy (RIT). In addition, she utilizes deep tissue work, trigger point injections, acupuncture, botanical medicine, and intravenous therapy as modalities to treat pain. Dr. Florence also utilizes Cosmetic applications of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for both hair loss and facial rejuvenation as well as Gynecological applications of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to treat urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness and difficulty achieving orgasm. She also practices general naturopathic medicine treating thyroid conditions, digestive issues, fatigue, menstrual irregularities, symptoms of menopause, and other chronic diseases.

Dr. Florence's interests outside of practice include travel, cooking, strength training, hiking, playing softball and playing basketball. She also enjoys practicing global medicine in underserved communities, spending time volunteering at medical clinics in both Mexico and Haiti. She served on the Board of Naturopaths Without Borders as the Fundraising Chair during her time at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.
